Career Advice

Career Advice and Guidance.  What to do during redundancy or career change!

You may wonder…

….what jobs will my skills and experiences fit?  Where are the jobs? Why does my CV disappear into the black hole of the web?  Why did I not get the job when I know I am really good at what I do?  Why doesn’t anyone give me feedback on my application?

Knowing that your job is being made redundant can itself create feelings of anxiousness, self-doubt and low self-esteem, but on top of all that, you have to find a new job, and sometimes quickly.

So, you have now found out that your job, after 5, 10, 15 or more years is being made redundant.  You have been loyal and committed to the company for some years and you know you have a lot to offer, so how do you prepare for redeployment, or sourcing alternative employment?

All of those questions above are totally normal and very common, having worked with 100s of employees facing redundancy, I know how frustrating it can be to not get any response to your applications, or feeling lost and not knowing where to start whilst also feeling the financial pressures.

What would it feel like to walk into an interview feeling more confident because you know you have prepared well enough for it, knowing exactly what your key skills, strengths and weaknesses are, and most of all knowing that you can promote yourself to any employer with confidence and conviction?

As a qualified Careers Adviser and an experienced Redundancy Coordinator for Wales I have, and continue to work with clients whose jobs are under threat of redundancy, I have helped 100s of clients become aware of the jobs market.  I have helped them identify their skills and qualities and taught them how to transfer their skills and experiences into different and more importantly, their preferred job roles.  I have also helped 100's of clients with CV writing and interview techniques.

Can you relate to any of these?

  • Low levels of confidence to apply for the job roles I truly desire
  • I’m not sure where the jobs are?
  • I’m not sure what jobs I can do with my background?
  • What can I offer an employer?
  • I haven’t had a job interview in years!

Even if you think you are not good enough, or you think that you don’t have the skills to offer a new employer:

I will help you:

  • Overcome the above obstacles
  • Help you understand what jobs your existing skill set matches
  • Give you the tools and techniques to apply
  • Provide you with the confidence to promote yourself exceptionally well on your CV and / or at a job interview.

This is what will happen;

Initial Career Prosperity Questionnaire

This will help give me an idea of what stage you are at, and where to focus on during our 90-minute session.

Career Prosperity after Redundancy Session (with homework)

A 90-minute session discussing areas identified from the Career Prosperity Questionnaire, answering and addressing main challenges and how to overcome them.  Identifying skills and qualities, how to excel in a challenging labour market and overcome the faceless recruitment process.  Help you decide what job roles to apply for.

You’ll be more aware of your skills and experiences and how they relate and fit into different job roles, but more importantly, you will now know what to confidently promote at the job interview.  This session will give you the confidence to know that you are good enough.

Career Prosperity Action Plan

After the session I will provide you with a clear action plan, this may involve some further research on different jobs and the labour market, organisations to contact or further develop your CV, this all depends on what our areas of topic will be.

Follow Up Call

We’ll have a 30 minute follow up call to review your progress, we can agree on a date that fits your schedule.  We’ll go over your action plan, answer any further questions you may have and make sure that you are on track to securing your next job role.

It is possible to regain confidence after redundancy, and it is possible to find a job that makes you happy.  It is also possible to be an effective candidate in a tough labour market and be at the front of the queue.  I have also been a recruiter for a number of years – You will get there!

The investment for this is just £120.
